PGS 2025 Q&A: Naomi S. Inting

Naomi S. Inting is from Quezon City, Metro Manila who loves to read stories about fantasy, mystery, and comedy. At 9 years old, she’s lived with four cats throughout her life: Boxer, Liger, Duday, and Shiro. She likes cats because they are cute and furry, and can jump really high. While she’s never lived with a dog, she likes chihuahuas because they’re small, loud, and have dark beady eyes. In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano, reading, drawing, watching anime, and practicing karate. She dreams of being a zookeeper who helps with restoring endangered species and reintroducing them into the wild. “No More CATS!” is her first published story.

Hi, Naomi! Welcome to Philippine Genre Stories 2025! We’re very curious about two things:

1. Which anime do you like to watch and why?

I like “World Trigger” because my yaya was watching it one day and then I suddenly got interested. So, I started watching with her and, now, I’m watching it on my own.

      2. And what are your favorite books and why do you like them?

My favorite books are “Upside Down Magic: Showing Off” — that’s one of them — and another is… Hmm. Wait, I don’t know! I like “Upside Down Magic” because it’s about magic, which I’ve always been interested in. And it’s also about a talent show. I like talent shows!

(Laughing) We’d be sure to check these out. So how does it feel to see that you have a story out here where people can read it?

It feels great to have a story that people can read because I really want people to enjoy reading and my books can help people understand how fun reading is!

We agree! And what inspired you to make this story?

I was inspired because I know that dogs and cats like to fight a lot. Cats are my favorite animals so I decided to write something about cats and dogs. I also like dogs, actually! Especially chihuahuas.

But you’ve never lived with a dog and cats are your favorite: what made you choose to have a dog be the main character of your story instead of a cat?

I made a dog the main character of the story because sometimes cats are always in the spotlight, so I want to give dogs a chance to do that.

That’s true. How did you come up with the names for them?

I just decided the first name on my own — Fluffy’s name — and my mom helped me decide that Charlene would be called Charlene, and her nickname would be “Cherry.” And I like that my mom helped me with that!

Yes, we are so grateful to have had your Mom’s help, too! You also like drawing and you illustrated the story: which was easier to do, the drawings or writing out the story, and why?

I think the illustrations and the writing were both easy because I’ve always wanted to make a story. And I actually made one before when I was a little kid.

And what was the hard part about making this story?

The hard part was deciding what would happen in the story because I just let the answer come to me when I’m writing. So, it’s a bit hard.

We understand how hard it goes. Finally: do you have any plans of continuing the story of Flufy and Cherry? If yes, could you give us maybe a little idea of what would happen next?

I am planning on making a continuation of “No More Cats” because the end of this book was not the end of Fluffy’s and Cherry’s story. So I’m going to make more books and the next one will be about Fluffy and Cherry playing a game of tag and ending up chasing each other in the park.

Thank you very much, Naomi, for your story and we are really looking forward to reading more from you!
